Excess noise and Houston construction projects

The landscape in Houston is constantly evolving. This evolution happens often as a result of new construction. Construction companies are constantly creating new developments and making improvements to existing structures. Construction crews work endlessly to get the job done on schedule and within budget.

But while there are many benefits to construction work in Houston, there are some downsides. Construction can be both messy and loud. It can create hazards for individuals in and around the construction site. It can also limit residents' access to certain areas or to certain utilities.

Often, these negatives are outweighed by the positives. However, the City of Houston has taken steps to control certain aspects of the construction industry. By passing city ordinances, the government ensures that construction work and normal life can coincide peacefully.

When it comes to noise, for example, Houston has noise ordinances in place. When individuals like construction crews are using sound amplifying equipment, they must apply for a permit to work. This equipment includes any machine, device, sound amplifier or loudspeaker that can be heard outside of the building or within it. This application and permit must be filed with local police offices.

By obtaining a permit, construction crews gain the right to use such sound amplifying equipment between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. every day. If the crew has an annual permit, hours are extended until 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

It is important for construction crews, developers and others in the construction industry to understand all the necessary permits that are required to legally take a job. There are many legal considerations that must be made when undertaking construction work. They're also legal options when construction work does not go as planned. By contacting an attorney, individuals can understand their legal rights when it comes to construction projects and construction litigation around Houston.
