What Are Family Law Courts?

Judges in family law courts hear cases concerning divorce and child-related matters, among others. In Harris County, Texas, there are nine family law courts, and each court is identified by a district number. The courts are the 245th, 246th, 247th, 308th, 309th, 310th, 311th and 312th. When you file a lawsuit, the case is randomly assigned to one of the nine family law courts. Each court has a presiding judge elected by the voters of Harris County. In addition to the presiding judge, an associate judge may handle many matters involving your case.
